Every favor
comes due.
Nobody remembers exactly when Shattuck entered the music business. This may be because he never did.
Nevertheless, for more than three decades his name has appeared quietly in the margins of some of music's least documented moments — backstage, after hours, at unsigned showcases, fraternity houses, recording sessions, border crossings, restaurant openings, business transactions and at least one incident involving a dragon.
Along the way, favors were extended. Introductions were made. Problems disappeared.
And debts accumulated.
In 2026, Shattuck called them in.
Nine artists who otherwise have absolutely no business appearing on the same record were given a simple instruction:
Bring me a song.
Some brought one. Some brought several. Nobody declined.
The resulting sixteen recordings span outlaw country, blues, rap, glam, punk, regret, substance abuse, gas-station cappuccino and several genres that have yet to receive formal recognition.
There was no common producer. There were no joint recording sessions. Several of the artists deny ever having met. At least two maintain that the others do not actually exist.
Yet somehow, every master ended up in the possession of the same man.
